Can You Answer The Most Common Objection To Bible Authority?

One common objection pops up when discussing the authority and confirmation of the Bible. Sadly, it stumps many Christians, even though they know the answer. Nobody can argue the response isn’t true — you have the ability to provide a 100% foolproof response which not even the most hardened skeptic will (or can) dispute.

The Authority of the Bible

Deutero Isaiah remains a theory so absurd it makes little sense to discuss it. But what happens when its disciples have their security blanket tugged?

Let’s consider agnosticism and see if there’s something to discuss. If you’re an atheist, don’t bother with this as your position comes from faith (not critical thinking), and nothing will ever shake the dogma of your convictions.

Closing Arguments

Jesus is just a bunch of religious mumbo-jumbo for people who don’t have today’s modern thought. As modern people, we don’t need the crutches of the past. And we can explain many things by science without the need for religious intervention.

The Death of Jesus

It is entirely possible Jesus never died. The Romans were not doctors after all. Since we cannot travel back in time with a medical team to certify the death of Jesus, isn’t it possible He never really died?

Jesus Christ's claims to be God

Jesus never claimed to be God. The belief He is God comes from His followers. We never see Him make that statement.

The Preservation of the Bible

The problem with the Bible is our copies are almost 2,000 years old. Even if the original accounts are accurate, over the many thousands of years errors have crept in. We can never know if the copyist made errors or not, since we don’t have the original copies.

Errors in Jesus' Genealogies

The virgin birth? No such event ever occurred. It is a myth propagated by Christians to support their claims of a miraculous God. Even if we accept it, we have an obvious contradiction in the Bible with the genealogy of Jesus.

Errors in the Gospels

If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. (John 5:31 NKJV). Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true (John 8:14 NKJV). Both statements cannot be true. The Bible is in error.

Bible Errors I

The most important doctrine of the Bible is in question, that of the way to salvation. Jesus, and later James, taught a salvation by works, while Paul taught a salvation by faith alone.

Opening Arguments

Jesus. We can never know for sure if He even existed. The defense will draw on the Bible — a quaint collection of stories to be sure — but hardly divinely inspired.
