Controversy in Corinth

By yeager - Posted on 07 November 2009

The church at Corinth didn’t differ much from churches today — they had problems surrounding divisions, marriage and divorce, legal issues, pride, and more. But Paul now turns his attention to two issues causing problems at Corinth which remain today — the hot button topics of feminism (the proper role of men and women) and spiritual gifts.

  1. What is the role of women (and others) in the church? What is church order? The issues remain today as feminism takes hold in the church — does Paul’s teaching remain relevant for today, or is it outdated? To find out you must understand the difference between a principle and an argument, with the key to unlocking the issue coming from understanding the Marine fire team. Read more in our article trouble with order, approaching the text with a mind to see what the Bible has to say, not preconceived ideas.
  2. Spiritual gifts also cause problems, with some saying they no longer exist, and others placing too much emphasis on certain ones, causing divisions in the church. Take a fresh look at chapter 12 to see what Paul teaches on trouble with spiritual gifts.
