This is similar to the standard "3-clause" BSD license, except for the addition of a clause stating modified versions must be marked. The GPL and LGPL carry this requirement as well.
FAQ
- Why not use the standard BSD License?
- The standard BSD license lacks a requirement for modified versions to be marked as such. If someone distributes modifed code, they should let everyone know it’s not original from the author.
- Why not the GPL?
- For some things, a BSD-like license is better than GPL. It allows more freedom in the use of the code. Closed-source, no problem. Commerical, no problem. Profit, free, or anything in between.
