Q&A: 1967 Scofield

Does the 1967 Scofield leave the thee’s and thou’s? I have grown to appreciate them. There are certain words which do need updating to be sure, but I kind of like the thee’s and thou’s.

Q&A: Bible Translation

Here’s a note via the contact form, and since it does not contain an email address I can’t respond to it (if you send a message via the contact form, be sure to include an email address if you’re asking for a reply).

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Perhaps one of the oldest questions is Why is there evil in the world? Or to put it a different way, why do bad things happen to good people? Where do we go for answers; what’s our authority? The Bible. But what exactly does the Bible say about such things? Certainly the most common answer we here is from the book of Job. There is much to learn there, but from a practical standpoint, but how do we use this information? Let’s look at two people of the bible, and what they had to say.

Q&A: Are the Six Days of Creation Literal?

Q: What are your views on the literal six days of creation?

A debate rages regarding the meaning of “day” in Genesis. Some argue the day means what we understand it to be — a period of 24 hours — while others argue the Hebrew can mean “age”, thus the creation could have taken billions of years; some people attempt to reconcile the Bible with evolution (a situation which leaves both sides wanting. It’s just not possible to reconcile evolution with the Bible. We’ve written lots on evolution, search the site to find it).

Q&A: How to Live with a Legalistic Spouse?

I recently received an email asking about living with a legalistic spouse and the difficulties it can cause — especially with other family and children. (Note: I received it via the contact form and the person didn’t include an email address — if the person sending it reads this, contact me again and provide an email address).

Q: How does a Christian live with a legalistic spouse?

What does In Jesus Name mean?

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (John 14:13–14 KJV)

Skeptics can jump on this verse to claim Jesus lied — since presumably some prayer requests are denied. But what does “in Jesus name” mean? Can using those magic words transform God into your personal genie granting wishes?

Pseudo-Scholarship - Why do People Suffer?

Occasionally we stumble across (or someone recommends) a scholar touted as the ultimate answer to rebut Christianity and promote (presumably) atheism, or at the least the absurdity of Christianity. One such person is Bart Ehrman, professor of Religious Studies at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. One of his books discusses the problem of why suffering exists, but let the review on his web site speak for itself:
