Post-modern philosophy denies absolutes — reality isn’t absolute, only what popular opinion or someone believes at the time. Think that’s absurd? The current occupant of the White House believes firmly in post-modern philosophy, admitting in a speech on the Senate floor concerning the Supreme Court he holds firmly to post-modern philosophy.

It’s not the search for the Holy Grail man has obsessed with over the centuries, it’s the search for the free lunch — the idea you can have your cake and eat it too, weight loss without exercise or diet changes, get rich quick, and so on. This error infects politicians, science, economists, and now, even the church.

Politics will always be a rough-and-tumble business with heated debates and strong emotions. However, if you’re going to engage in political discussion (and you should as a steward of the country), you must be prepared to take advantage of any situation which presents itself.

Debt Deal Disaster

The reported deal (subject to change) is about $2,500,000,000,000 ($2.5 Trillion) in more debt, over two years. That’s about $8,000 for each man, woman, and child in the country. For a family of 4, that means Obama and Congress just charged $300 PER WEEK over the next two years on your credit card.

We’ve heard much about the Casey Anthony trial, but if you’ve read our about page you know we’re not interested in news per se, but how that news applies to you. In this incident, we’ll draw some conclusions about the legal system — good or bad — instead of continuing other discussion you’ll find elsewhere.

Like everything in Washington, spending and the deficit is political. No sane person denies the Obama deficit is a staggering problem and must be dealt with, the difference is some people want to deal with it now, others want to ignore it until later. Who understands the seriousness of the problem? This was said on the Senate floor:

It’s been a while since we covered The Beginning of the Financial Crisis; some people finally noticed fixing the housing market requires people to actually pay their mortgage (gasp! horror!), and the old standard of 20% down might actually be a good idea so borrowers are financially motivated not to walk away from their obligation (as many are doing).

The increasing Federal deficit rises to the top issue these days as the government seeks to increase the amount they spend on your credit card. The size of deficit spending in the Obama administration is truly breathtaking (and not in a good way). Unfortunately, they’ve been lying to you about the deficit for years, as far back as the myth of the surplus from the Clinton era.

The “Freedom from Religion Foundation” attempt to force their views onto everyone else crashes and burns in a spectacular fireball; the National Day of Prayer began in the 1950’s (so it’s a recent effort by atheists to squash it), and the law roughly reads:

It seems it’s trendy now to be concerned about the Federal debt. Unfortunately if you actually examine what Washington has to say you’ll find it’s 100% devoid of any reality. Exhibit “A” in this delusion: President Obama’s speech on fiscal discipline and reducing the national debt of April 13 2011, where he made the following stunning whopper:

Another court case involving religion and the First Amendment popped up recently. Unfortunately, the ACLU once again shows they’ve never actually read the First Amendment.

Another judge declared Obamacare against the Constitution, declaring in part:

It is difficult to imagine that a nation which began, at least in part, as the result of opposition to a British mandate giving the East India Company a monopoly and imposing a nominal tax on all tea sold in America would have set out to create a government with the power to force people to buy tea in the first place.

Very few people would disagree public education is anything other than a failure as it gets worse and worse. A new study proves college fails in the most important idea to teach: learning how to learn, with logic and critical thinking.

As always, after any tragedy like the assassination attempt of a US Congressman in Arizona, various people and groups always attempt to spin it for political advantage, as Rahm Emanuel proclaimed “Never let a crisis go to waste”.

It didn’t even take hours for the political spin and blame-game to begin.

While reading a social justice website to keep up on the latest news, I stumbled across a post complaining about one of the social-justice crowd’s favorite dead horses — healthcare and the cost of prescription drugs (it’s those eeeeevil drug companies, you know). They complained about the costs in the United States verses elsewhere (Canada,etc), and when they did, I almost fell out of the chair laughing.

We previously noted Obamacare ends the republic, but at least one judge stands against the absurd and twisted idea not buying a product is commerce. For those judges and others needing a refresher, let’s review the definition:

com·merce — noun. An interchange of goods or commodities, esp. on a large scale between different countries (foreign commerce) or between different parts of the same country (domestic commerce); trade; business. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/commerce

What is judicial activism? Many slap it on any court decision they don’t like. In reality it’s failing to follow The Constitution, changing the clear and plain meaning. We recently noted how the government would defend Obamacare (using an abuse of the commerce clause). The Virginia court cites that bizarre activist ruling as a precedent in upholding forced nationalized healthcare.

Much has been written for and against the TSA’s new screening policies. We won’t wade into the battle here, because one point missed in the media frenzy — according to current legal case law, once you enter a “secured” area of an airport you’re essentially under Federal arrest as you may not leave the secured area without permission — even if you choose not to fly, as someone in San Diego found out the hard way after he decided he rather not fly than be subjected to the new enhanced procedures.

Paul Krugman doesn’t hide his far-left leanings (calling his blog the “conscience of a liberal”), perhaps why his economic policies frequently come out rather bizarre and slanted.

It’s been a week since the election; if you’re a political geek you’re likely stuffed with all the pundits proclaiming this and that. But two issues the media left unexplored:

  • The Filibuster — how to keep it and return to what it is supposed to be.
  • Why Republicans not taking the Senate is good for the Republic (and it has nothing to do with partisan politics like D’s and R’s).

Will our hero be able to save the masses from economic calamity? Or will the hero turn out to be a zero? Join the cast of millions as our hero burns through Billions in cash like he created it out of thin air! A must-see drama! Gripping! Thrilling! Suspenseful!

Homeschooling can be a touchy subject — both in the church and out. NBC ran a series of articles on homeschooling and reading the discussion you’ll find it’s a topic with virtually no agreement, heated discussions, and (in some cases) a complete lack of evidence supporting opinions. You’ll hear the following arguments:

Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally drew much attention, but it also gave fuel to the on-going feud between Beck and Sojourners’ Jim Wallis, as a big difference between the views of Beck and Wallis surrounds “social justice”.

It's the Deficit, Stupid

Remember James Carville’s famous slogan for the Clinton campaign—“it’s the economy, stupid”? It was meant to remind staffers to always stay on message, and the message was the economy. With that single issue, Clinton won the election.

Today it’s massive Federal debt, and the yearly deficit topping a Trillion dollars. The bigger problem? The official numbers don’t tell the real story:

Perhaps you’ve heard the controversy over Obamacare and its Constitutionality, specifically regarding the commerce clause, as Pelosi and company claim the commerce clause gives the Federal government the authority to force you to purchase a product — you’re a criminal simply for being born if you don’t take action.

Recently a storm erupted regarding the change in phrasing from “freedom of religion”, to “freedom to worship”. As the administration’s comments and speeches are vetted and approved in advance (and usually read from a prompter), it’s not simply a slip of the tongue but an intended policy change; it’s a conscious change in language, and since the phrase has been used by the President himself, it’s reasonable to conclude he is not only aware of the shift, but approves of it.

If you watch cable news at all (no matter the channel), you’ve heard of Jim Wallis and the issue of “social justice” pop up. Mr. Wallis appears on MSNBC, Huffington Post and of course his own blog. No matter your leanings, you’ve likely heard his comments about social justice and the Gospel; allow Jim Wallis to define the gospel the way he sees it:

Freedom of religion makes the news quite a bit as atheists attempt to stomp out any and all references to God frequently claiming “separation of church and state” as meaning a valedictorian can’t mention God in their commencement speech, or nativity scenes can’t exist in public places, or crosses on hills, or any public display of religion anywhere.

From the that-didn’t-take-long department:

The Obama administration has officially approved the first instance of taxpayer funded abortions under the new national government-run health care program. This is the kind of abortion funding the pro-life movement warned about when Congress considered the bill.

The Obama Administration will give Pennsylvania $160 million to set up a new “high-risk” insurance program under a provision of the federal health care legislation enacted in March.

It has quietly approved a plan submitted by an appointee of pro-abortion Governor Edward Rendell under which the new program will cover any abortion that is legal in Pennsylvania. http://lifenews.com/nat6531.html

Perhaps you’ve heard the “Cloward and Piven strategy” mentioned. What exactly is it? And how does it play into the wildly increasing Federal debt, failure to act on a number of issues, and general political philosophy (“Never let a crisis go to waste”)?

In our previous article on Christians, the tea-party, and Libertarianism (prompted by Reverend Jim Wallis’ article disparaging the tea-party movement) one area left un-discussed was the issue of Christians and Romans 13. Since it can be used it to justify particular actions by government, it’s time to take a look to see what it says in context. First, Mr. Wallis’ argument.

A White House adviser (Jim Wallis) compares the Tea Party to libertarian philosophy, proclaiming it “un-Christian” in support of his brand of “social justice”, even attempting to use Jesus’ words to support his opinion. His article raises many questions:

Coming on the heals of debunking the Myth of the Surplus, deficit-deniers are back at it again with the sequel “Myth of the Stimulus”, touting a CBO report (May 26, 2010) claiming millions of jobs created—but does the report have any relevance to reality? We’ll quickly see it does not.

Christians (and it’s good advice for everyone else) are called to be skeptical—several places in the Bible it states check things out for yourself and don’t believe something just because it came from an “authoritative” source; many of those sources turn out to be false. Do your homework, or as Jesus said “Take heed that no one deceive you”.

The yearly Federal budget deficit is on everyone’s mind these days. Many use it to score political points, but with few exceptions, both political parties failed the American people in controlling the debt monster. Certainly the debt isn’t a new problem to this administration — remember SchoolHouse Rock from decades ago?

With all the debate over health-care, what’s really going on behind the scenes? You sure won’t find out watching CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, or CNN. One of the sticking issues remains abortion — should the Federal government pay for it? The two sides have been arguing back and forth, but recently the mask has come off the pro-abortion side, revealing what they really want.

In Justice by Alan Sears describes a story similar to Orwell’s “1984”, but relating to first amendment freedoms, specifically religious freedoms. This issue remains at the forefront today, whether it’s speaking on your beliefs, religious displays, so-called “hate speech”, and more. The book considers what might happen if today’s politically correct movement continues to grow.

On occasion different news stores appear unrelated, but turn out connected. Let’s connect the dots and see what turns out. The first story comes from Florida Democrat Alan Grayson (who’s 15 minutes appears to be about up) on his latest media-grabbing statement — only this time, (almost) everyone agrees his ship isn’t firmly tied to the pier.

As the federal deficit passes the trillion dollar mark (quadrupling since last year), and expected to go higher before the end of the year as Congress and the administration ponder yet more spending, how much is a trillion dollars?

  • $10,000 for each household is one trillion.
  • $3,000 for every man, woman, and child is one trillion.

July 4 isn’t just about NASCAR, hot dogs and soda. How many people take the time to remember those events over 200 years ago? The founding document of the country?

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. With all the talk of economic depression, stimulus, sub-prime mortgages — and of course all the political grandstanding, finger pointing, and attempts to use the situation to further political agendas, most people have a simple question:

How did the country get in this mess?

It’s not AIG, Lehman, Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, or even Enron and MCI. It’s not the national debt, budget deficits or politician’s plans for staggering tax increases which will surely damage the already fragile economy. Make no mistake, all those are bad, but they’re only symptoms of the real disease, the cancer eating away at our society — that cancer is as Zell Miller said “A Deficit of Decency” — more specifically, a lack of ethics.

All the recent flap over the comments of pastor Jeremiah Wright illustrates an important point. It’s not really about his comments, or if Obama himself supported them (or heard them at all), it’s not even about racism — those are all political issues and have been discussed elsewhere ad nauseum without resolution (issues which we will not discuss here as they are irrelevant to the point).

Whoreable Behavior

That’s the title of Ann Coulter’s article about New York Governor Eliot Spitzer. By now, everyone should have heard the story – the up and coming Democrat Governor of New York (some said he was Presidential material) wasted tens of thousands of dollars on prostitutes and resigned.
