1 Corinthians 3 Commentary

| | Comments (0)

Notes on our continuing study in Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians are now available for chapter three.

In chapter three Paul turns to the carnal Christian — those not walking by the spirit, but frequently by legalism. Those cause problems in the church as they attempt to force their regulations on everyone else, and argue everyone must follow “their” rules. What does Paul have to say about carnal Christians? Are Christians weak if they don’t follow the rules?

Additionally, the church at Corinth divided among several teachers, and again argued over which one was correct. Paul already discussed the superiority of God’s wisdom and the failure of man’s in chapter two, so the obvious point becomes why would a church cause division over following certain teachers?

Finally, Paul discusses eternal rewards.

Paul continues on the subject of divisions in the church by discussing carnal Christians — those causing division, strife and a lack of peace, frequently by legalistic approaches to God (For example, only singing certain songs on some mystical approved list). Contrast the fruit of the spirit in Galatians 5 with the carnal Christian to see the difference.

Daniel 9 Commentary

Daniel realizes the captivity of Israel is almost over, and prays for the nation and forgiveness of sin, providing a model for Christians today in their approach to the nation and government.

Voters have a unique stewardship for the country. Unfortunately many Christians take their stewardship lightly, and fail to apply God’s Word to modern situations (such as elections and political matters).

Your vote is part of your Christian stewardship, and becomes more important as society attempts to purge God from all corners of society, as the country moves towards value and moral relativism — a time where “everyone does what is right in their own eyes” and the denial of absolutes reigns, and a failure to follow God’s law.

Notes on our continuing study in Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians are now available for chapter two.

Paul contrasts Man’s wisdom with God’s, demonstrating we must be led by the spirit to understand the mind of God; people without the spirit of God have no method to understand the things of God. But if man’s wisdom is inferior to God’s, why do Christians form divisions in the church surrounding a particular human teacher?

Additionally, chapter two answers the question sports fans always ask at this time of the year — is it acceptable to pray for a football game? The answer may surprise you.

Notes on our continuing study in Daniel are now available for the seventy week prophecy found in chapter nine.

Daniel’s prophecy of seventy weeks contains the key to understanding all end times prophecy. While much misunderstanding exists, allowing the Bible to explain itself makes the 70 week prophecy clear and easily understood.
